GrindLine: Your Comprehensive Guide to Concrete Tooling
At GrindLine, we understand that every concrete slab tells a unique story. To achieve the best results, you need a toolkit capable of handling everything from 20-year-old epoxy to high-speed surface refinement.
We’ve combined our three master tooling charts into one comprehensive guide. This will help you choose the right diamond for every stage of your project. Below is the Professional GrindLine Tooling Guide for each phase.
Phase 1: The "Heavy Lift" – Removal Tooling
Before you can polish, you must prepare the surface. Our removal lineup is designed to "plow" through coatings without gumming up your machines.
The Powerhouse Options:
PCDs & Bear Claws: Your go-to for thick removal. The 2 PCD 1 Seg thrives at a higher 2200 Planetary RPM for maximum speed.
Pyramid & 2 Arrow: Specialists for Mastic, Epoxy, and Glue. These tools focus pressure to break the bond between the coating and the concrete.
3 Square: When the slab is uneven or requires Aggressive Cutting, the 3 Square offers the widest bond range (XX-Soft to X-Hard).
Phase 2: The "Smooth Move" – Grinding Tooling
Once the coatings are removed, it’s time to refine the scratch pattern and prepare for polishing or overlays.
The Workhorses: Metal Bonds
2-Seg & 10-Seg: Your primary grind tools. The 2-Seg offers more pressure per segment for hard concrete, while the 10-Seg provides a smoother, more consistent scratch pattern.
2-Oval & 5-Seg: Use the 2-Oval for Aggressive Cutting and the 5-Seg for a versatile Prep/Removal hybrid.
Turbo Daisy & Daisy 0: These Velcro-backed tools are the perfect bridge between metal-bond grinding and resin polishing, offering superior Refinement.
Phase 3: The "Finish Line" – Hone & Polish Tooling
This is where the magic happens. Our Hone & Polish series transitions your floor from a matte prep surface to a mirror-like finish.
The Refiners:
Copper & Ceramic: Your transition tools. Use Copper (Hybrid Trans) for Honing (30–400 grit) and Ceramic (Dry Turbo) for a fast Dry Hone (30–200 grit).
Resin Pads: The industry standard for Dry Polishing. Available from 200 to 3000 grit, these pads provide that signature deep-gloss finish.
GLO Polishing Pads: The ultimate versatile pad for Wet or Dry Polishing. These offer a massive grit range (100–3000) for consistent refinement.
Toro: Our specialized Wet Polish solution. Use these when a wet application is required to keep the slab cool and the dust down, spanning from 50 to 3000 grit.
Quick-Reference: Speed & Purpose Chart
| Phase | Tool Type | Attachment | Purpose | Planetary RPM |
|----------|------------------|------------------|----------------------|--------------------|
| Removal | PCD / Pyramid | Switch System™ | Stripping Coatings | 1800–2200 |
| Grinding | Metal Bonds | Switch System™ | Prep & Leveling | 1800–2300 |
| Honing | Copper / Ceramic | Velcro | Scratch Refinement | 1800–2500 |
| Polishing| Resin / GLO / Toro| Velcro | High-Gloss Finish | 2400–3500 |
Pro Tip: Watch Your RPMs
As you transition from removal to polishing, your Planetary RPM should generally increase. While removal tools operate in the 1800–2200 range to avoid overheating, our Resin and GLO pads perform best at higher speeds (2400–3500 RPM) to create the friction necessary for a high-gloss shine.
